"Okay, the most important thing when you first hit the ground on the guard, is defense first. I like to go to head and arm control, get a tight over hook on the right arm, because most the population is right handed. Go to the back of the head for self defense purposes, because the head-butts, you know where not talking modern on the man, there's head-butts, there's biting, there's eye gauging, there's all kinds of dirty things. You're going to pull his head in tight, pull your legs in tight, and hide yourself. He can't really punch me, except in the ribs. He can punch me in the ribs a little bit, I can drop the elbow to defend. He can't punch to his own face to punch my head, going to try and punch my head, I stay tight. If he tries to head-butt, if I stay out far, he's going to head-butt me. If I stay tight to him though, it's going to be hard, and I can ride it out. From there, once he starts to maybe slip his arm out, then I like to box and blast from my back, he freaks out, he gets a little space, get the feet up to the hips or the chest, kick him off, stand up, and get up, and you're back to your game, or able to run, or back to striking distance, okay. So when you're down here, once he releases this hold, he's trying to get past your arm, you stay tight, if he gets past your arm, blast a little bit, kick off the hip, kick the chest, boot him off, and get back to your feet, get into your striking, and then you can go from there. So there's your guard defense, defending yourself. First keep him close, when he's far, a few punches, kick his chest, and get back to your feet, and get out of there. That's your guard defense, and escape back to your feet."
