"Hi, my name is Lawal McCray Senior. I'm the head football coach at Blanche Ely High School. We're located in Pompano Beach, Florida. How do you become an NFL Scout? For one, I suggest that you take college management courses. Number two, if you're a young guy and you're really interested in becoming an NFL Scout, you must start training early. One, go to high school games in your area. Take a digital camera, take a notepad. During the games, take notes, plenty of notes, and practice. Pick out a player or two and scout that player. You want to write down as many details as possible. As you become proficient with it, sit at the various colleges and see if you can get a job as a scout on that team. Now some schools, the person who does the scouting is one of the assistant coaches. So you may want to be put in the position where you go and volunteer as assistant to that person. But once you become proficient at it, do it again. Make a sample tape, break it down, and look for things that the average person cannot find. Send it off to various NFL teams. Now you're letting them know the skills you have developed, and that you are able to do the game. Another note, you must understand a scout's eye is different from a fan's eye. You must be very detailed in what you're looking for. You must see things that an average person cannot see. That's what makes a scout different from a fan. Before you do this now, understand, to be an NFL Scout, once again, requires many hours of travel, many days of being away from your family, and it could be a rough life if you're a family man. But if you feel you could handle the rigors of being an NFL Scout, start this process, and one day your dreams will come true."
