"Hi! I'm Dr. Darren Adamson from Argosy University in Salt Lake City. I'm here today to talk to you about the benefits of outdoor childcare centers or at least the childcare center that has access to an outdoor area for the children that are there. There are various benefits to a childcare center that has access to the outdoors. Clearly, children, younger children particularly between the ages of about 2 and 5 are the most active physically that they're ever going to be in their entire lives. And so, having a place for them to run freely to enjoy the outdoors, to feel the warmth of the sun, to feel the wind on their faces, to be able to touch the grass or flowers or plants that are in an outdoor setting is very very healthy for their development, both physical development because they get to run and jump and play and swing. But also, for their cognitive development. The more things that a child of that age can experience, can see, can touch, perhaps even taste, the more they learn, their brain develops more quickly or fully because they learn new things all the time. Whereas if they're indoors all the time, they're only exposed to those very few things that are indoors whereas outdoors, they're exposed to a multitude of sensory experiences. So, those outdoor, those childcare centers that have outdoor facilities are really wonderful for young children in many many ways."
