"We don't think about pre-colonial Africa when we think about inventions, but the papyrus that was used for paper originally came from Africa. Also, mummification was something that was developed in Africa. It also was the basis for many of our musical instruments, like the harp. And pre-colonial times also helped us design things with metals that were mined in Africa. Malachite was one of them, gold, copper. These kinds of things made an impression on the whole world as they were developed and refined."
