In the middle ages armor was almost a boutique item. It was something that people were known for, they were made out of different things, some of leather, some of metal. And they were the knights and the people who wore the armor took great pride in what theirs looked like, and how well it worked. Of course your basic piece of armor was the helmet. Just like football players, and people now a days use a helmet to protect their head, that was one of the most noticeable and useful things was the helmet. The helmet also acted as another face for the person who was wearing it. And often a lot of painstaking time was put in the design of the helmet, so that each helmet had it's own personality, and reflected that person who was wearing it. The armor of the knights became something that was very, very personal, and very much helped to protect them in all kinds of battle situations. And in the even in their death they would be depicted on the stones in brass by what they were wearing on their armor. And how their armor looked and was made. It is often in museums one of the popular things that people go to see, because of the design, and of because of the size. We are sometimes surprised at how small some of the people were that wore armor. But armor has always been something that has been interesting to us as a way of protecting a person, and seeing how that worked.
