Summary: The benefits of dual exhaust include the ability to allow more exhaust gas to escape the engine with less back pressure. Discover how the ability for exhaust to escape easily results in a more powerful engine with help from an auto mechanic in this free video on auto parts.

"What are the benefits of dual exhaust. Besides the obvious benefit of looking cool, dual exhaust allows more exhaust gas to escape the engine with less back pressure than a similarly size single exhaust would. When you picture the engine, the engine is essentially a giant pump, and it is taking air in and it is pumping exhaust out. And so the easier the exhaust can get out of the engine, the more efficient and the more powerful the engine will be. Now that is not necessarily to say that dual exhaust is always going to be superior, because you can have a single exhaust system with a large enough single pipe that it will be equal to or even better than a dual exhaust system in terms of flow. However, in some cases, especially with low ground clearance vehicles, or a vehicles that just don't have a lot of room to run exhaust, it is frequently easier to run two smaller pipes than it is to run one single pipe. So ultimately dual exhaust gives you a little more flexibility, and of course it is always nice to have the look of the two exhaust pipes coming out of the car."
