on 8/23/2009 a tank breeds respiratory infection due to lack of aeration! wood shavings are a no-no as they contribute to respiratory infection!! she is contradicting herself seriously! Wheels are not recommended by rat enthusiasts over here in the uk... Rats also require daily handling and as much free roaming as possible!

on 7/26/2009 OMG
this is a horrible video.
1st they cant have just a wheel they have to come Out of the cage at least once a day for at least an hour.
They cant have any wood shavings for bedding! Dont listen to petstore owners like this.. She is selling products and not thinking about the illnesses that are caused by wood shavings all the time in rats.
CareFresh is great to use, but I see her tank is filled with the wrong bedding. Omg I cant believe this is here. Go to youtube or google pet rats to find the owners of rats and the specialists because this vid is very in-acurate and just bad!

"Hi this is Ashlee with Pet Planet in Riverton, Utah. Today I am here to show you how to care for your rat. One thing you can do to take care of them is you just want to make sure that you get a good cage because rats are intelligent and they will escape. And you would not want to lose your rat and have to find him. One good way to get a good cage set up for your rat is you want to make sure that maybe you can get like a ten or higher gallon aquarium. You can get a lid that actually locks so that your rat can not get out because they are too smart sometimes. One thing you want to do is make sure that you have plenty of toys for your rat. One good one is a wheel. That way they can exercise and run on there without having to worry about taking them out of the cage all the time. One other thing is to get some things that they can chew on. These are mineral blocks and they actually give them a good source of minerals and as well as trim their teeth. So that's something that you might want to think about getting for them. You can get the at your local pet store, you can get like chew blocks which are flavored so that kind of keeps them entertained and keeps their mind off of chewing other things if you are in the process of training your rat. Also you can get a soft bedding that they can actually tear apart and create their own bed in. One other thing you want to do is get the right kind of bedding for rat. Make sure that it doesn't have too many oils in it. They can handle the oils but you just want to watch it because they can get respiratory infections as well as finding the right food and the right bottle for their water. One good bedding that I would recommend is maybe like a care fresh betting, one that's a recycled paper. It's a lot softer and they do do a really well job of absorbing all the odor and you can guarantee that it won't hurt your animal or cause them respiratory infections. If you have any further questions about this you can contact us at Pet Planet, Riverton at gmail.com and we will be happy to answer any of your questions."
