"There are tons of software and tons of decorative software and everything from choosing the color of your room to laying out a space, how to place furniture, etc. all of that being said I believe it is virtually ineffective. There is something to be said about walking into a room, feeling the space, listening to a client or developing the theme of a room and designing that space specifically from concept to completion. Computers don't have feelings so a lot of things can be done over the computer and a lot of things are very effective. But unless you can show the computer your room and the space that you're working with and also tell it what you want to do and have it spit out the perfect answer, I believe there is something to be said about human interaction and feelings. And that goes back to the point of that we as humans want to connect with the space and we want to walk into a space, whether it is traditional or modern, whether the edges are soft or jagged, whether it is cold or warm by the colors all of those things play into what a person wants to feel when they walk into a room and you have to truly analyze a room or a space on a personal basis and kind of go from there. I do most of my sketches either by hand and then also by putting together boards. I put together color boards that incorporate the colors that we're going to use, paint samples, tile samples, wood samples and then also fabric samples so you can physically touch everything that I put together. You can see how your sofa is going to feel, you can actually see in the light of your living room how the color is going to look and we often know or those of us who have tried to do something on a whim and you go to your local hardware store and you pick out a paint sample and you paint a room and you get home and you are like oh my gosh this is not the right color and that is all based on the fact of every space is unique. It is just like people and their DNA, every space is unique and being in that space and truly experiencing it in a real time situation."
