"There are several ways you can become a wedding consultant: you can take classes now, they have event planning courses at the colleges; you can do it online; there are associations that offer -- at home, you actually can train from home and take the test and read books, etcetera, etcetera. Myself, I did corporate, and I took what I had learned from working in corporate for 15 years and just put it to weddings. It's the planning process. It is a plan, it's organization skills, it's knowing what questions to answer and what to ask and to answer. The need to know -- you need to know what happens in your community. It's like having a calendar in Wilmington, and you know that because there's the Azelia Festival, there's Riverfest, there's graduations, there's proms -- you have to know and be aware of what's going on because you may need a limo, you might need that trolley, or the horse and carriage, it just depends. When you become a wedding planner, it's full scale. You can read Martha Stewart, you can read Beverly Clark, that's what I did. You can go online and look at other weddings and read what happens. The thing that you see in books a lot of time take more than a day, OK? You can't transform a room in two hours or three hours. You need two days or three days. But planning is wonderful. It should be exciting. You need to take the time to chat with someone that's familiar with and knows the business, whether it's a 30 minute consultation and then you can decide if you need to work with a planner on a full time basis. It's just like with us -- we're full service, there are no packages, everything is individually designed to fit your specific needs, and help fit it in the budget."
