Summary: Most iguanas do not tame very well as they don't like to be disturbed or handled, but some iguanas can be tamed by being fed by hand from an early age. Find out why many people don't like the temperament of a pet iguana with help from an advanced certified animal control officer in this free video on green iguanas and reptiles.
"My name is Tim Cole, I'm the owner of Austin Reptile Service, and we're here to talk to you about taming iguanas. Taming iguanas is not something I would recommend for most people. Most iguanas do not tame very well, they really don't like to be messed with, they don't like to be handled. Iguanas get very large, five to six feet long with a large tail, a very long tail that they use as a whip. They have very sharp claws, very sharp teeth. And as they become mature, especially male iguanas, during the breeding season they do not tolerate being messed with. You can try and tame them down by feeding them by hand, and getting them use to you when they are younger. It may or may not work, in my experience it usually does not work. Most people are getting rid of their iguanas, because of their temperament, and because of their size they do require a lot of space. And there are a lot of other lizards out there that make good pets, that tolerate being handled, which would be a better choice. So this is our opinion and information on taming iguanas."
