"Hi my name is Kayti Brosnan, I'm a registered nurse in Austin, Texas and today I'm going to talk about how to avoid or prevent yeast infections. So there's some ways that you can do that daily by wearing appropriate clothing or avoiding certain clothing so wearing cotton underwear, not too tight fitting underwear, avoiding wet clothing for long periods of time which would allow warm, moist place for the yeast to overproduce or have the potential to overproduce. If you're a woman you want to avoid douching or using deodorant, like tampons or pads that have a deodorant within them. You want to avoid any sort of genital sprays, perfumes, that sort of thing. When you're using the restroom, you always want to wipe from front to back and never back to front because that's bringing bacteria obviously from the wrong place into the wrong place. So always wiping front to back. And then you want to avoid high sugars so especially if you have some sort of a chronic illness like diabetes. If you're having a lot of simple carbohydrates and taking in a lot of sweets, then you're going to have a lot of sugar in your body which the yeast will thrive on and it can be overproduced. And so those are just some of the ways that you can on a daily basis avoid or prevent a yeast infection."
