"Hi, my name's Kayti Brosnan. I'm a registered nurse here in Austin, Texas, and I'm going to talk to you about diabetes insipidus symptoms. Diabetes insipidus is not the same as diabetes mellitus. They're not connected in any way. They do have two common symptoms, which are increased urination and increased thirst, but they're not caused by the same things. Diabetes insipidus is caused by an imbalance in the pituitary gland as well as the kidneys, so there's a malfunction there that's causing this. The most common symptom is an increase in urination, and this is going to be really pale urination. So the concentration is really off, and the...and the specific gravity of the urine is really low. You'll also have increased thirst. Sometimes, there's bed-wetting at night, increased urination at night. In children, you'll see some irritability, listlessness, vomiting, diarrhea. You might also see dry hands and other symptoms of dehydration. So those are just some of symptoms, but really, the most common symptoms of diabetes insipidus."
