"Hi, I'm Joshua Vogel with Carolina Ob-Gyn, a division of Wilmington Health Associates and I'm going to talk to you today about knowing if you are going into premature menopause. By definition, the age of appropriate menopause is actually as young as forty; so technically if you are over forty, then your menopause is not premature. I do believe many forty, forty one and forty two year old women would find that to be quite early to be going into menopause. Well, it is well below the average age; it is not premature menopause. The appropriate discussion really is how to know when you are going into menopause. Now many women have infrequent periods. Most women have a regular monthly menstrual cycle and so, if this is you and you suddenly find this changing and missing a lot of periods, then it is very much worthwhile to go, get that examine and blood tests are really going to be the only way to determine if you maybe going into premature menopause. For women for whom uncommon menstruation is their typical stat, status, it's a little bit harder to determine. But certainly, if you go for full year without a menstrual cycle, it is appropriate to get that investigated further. This has been a discussion today of how to know when you might be going into premature menopause."
