"Hi, I'm Dr. Joshua Vogel with Carolina Ob-Gyn Associates, a division of Wilmington Health Associates and I'm going to talk to you today about getting pregnant after an abortion. The first thing to clarify is there are many kinds of abortion. Typically, when we use the term abortion, we're referring to elective abortions or voluntary pregnancy terminations. However, there are also in the medical literature refer to all spontaneous abortions or miscarriages are also classified as abortions. I think the most common concern that women have is after an elective pregnancy termination or abortion that it will compromise their ability to get pregnant in the future. But, many women who have experienced miscarriage share the same concerns. The answer for both of them is the same. Generally, this kind of thing should have no effect on your ability to get pregnant or have children in the future. There is a very rare occurrence if somebody has had to have multiple surgeries on their cervix and uterus of potentially compromising one's fertility or ability to carry a pregnancy. But again, this is an extremely rare occurrence and that should not cause an individual a great deal of anxiety about this condition. This has been a discussion today of getting pregnant after an abortion."
