How to Get Rid of Ants Using Peppermint

"Hi friends. I'm Mark Govan with ABC Pest Control in Largo, Florida. Getting rid of ants with peppermint, or as we would term, peppermint oil, is....there's a couple things you gotta know about it. Number one, peppermint oil is actually used as a repellent. That means once you apply it or spray it out with a, maybe a pump-up cannister, or some people, I've seen them use actual little squirt bottles and they'll squirt it up in around areas that they want to keep the ants away. See, what peppermint oil does, is it actually is that there's a mechanism within the ant that really hates the peppermint oil. So they are deterred away wherever the peppermint oil is. So if you want to keep the ants out of a structure, and you put the peppermint oil around the structure, a lot of times these ants, as long as they don't have a bridge over the peppermint oil, they'll be deterred from the structure itself. So that's a good way to help keep the ants out of the structure. Another way, if you're not going to use the peppermint oil or in conjunction with the peppermint oil, maybe you could use some exclusionary tactics. Caulking up areas that are allowing the ants access to the home. Trimming away your bushes along the sides of the home. That will also help keep ants off the house.
