"Have you ever stopped and considered how important it is for a child to learn basic first aid procedures? Hi, I'm Captain Joe Bruni. Children, even at preschool age, can be taught basic first aid in a matter of just a few days and a short period of time. First and foremost, you want to teach a child how to access the emergency response system. In many places across the country, this is by activating nine-one-one. In other areas, it would be calling a simple phone number that's posted for fire, police, medical emergencies. You want to start off by showing a child where the first aid kit is and what is inside the first aid kit. Practicing on how to apply bandages, using antiseptics, and things along those lines by drawing pictures and showing the child pictures of what you're trying to explain to them. These pictures can be transferred onto some type of chart along with emergency response telephone numbers that a child can access in an emergency situation when first aid measures will be needed. You're also going to try to reinforce the child that there's no reason to be afraid or scared during times of emergency and first aid when it is needed. A first aid chart together along with training can put you miles ahead when an emergency does arrive and a child would have to make the n, a call to an emergency response center or actually perform first aid measures themselves. Remember, children as lung as, as young as preschool age can be taught basic first aid procedures. I'm Captain Joe Bruni, stay safe."
