"Hi, I'm Kim with Simply Beautiful in Austin, Texas, how do you become a makeup artist? There's lots of different ways to become a makeup artist, if you're interested in doing it and you want to get a quick start, there's schools for makeup artistry. Find a good school and go to it, they'll teach you every little trick and every little thing you'll need to know, there's tips and techniques and they'll have great teachers to teach you. Another way it to become esthetician, those people work on skin and, as far as makeup artist are concerned, a lot of our job has to do with skin care so you need to learn a lot about skin before you start doing makeup. I, on the other hand, and a lot of the makeup artists I know, started just by getting a job behind a counter at a department store makeup line, Lancome, Chanel, and then you just learn how to do makeup. The lines will teach you, you'll go to schools with the lines or you'll push yourself hard to learn how to do makeup, you'll learn with your co-workers, that's how I learned how to do makeup. So, to become a makeup artist you can take any one of those roads."
