"So the pregnancy is drawing out. Maybe you passed your due date, maybe it's looking like the baby is going to be way bigger than expected. My name is Mark Brinson, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, Phyical Medicine and Human Performance Specialist, maybe going to give you a little bit of tips today about what you can do about that acupressure or acupuncture wise. First of all, as far as inducing labor, you want to make sure that you have a really good reason to do that and typically, that's when either the baby is getting too large , so the physician tells, you know, that this is not just going to be a seven-pound, eight-pound, nine-pound baby. It's looking like it's going to be a ten, eleven or twelve-pound baby which could be a problem and dangerous for the woman during labor. That's a pretty good reason. Another one might be that you passed your due date, that's why the doctor's telling you that. Maybe like more than a week passed, induction might be a good idea. Now while I don't recommend doing home techniques to induce labor with acupressure, if you go to a qualified acupuncture physician, they can really do some things that not only can significantly help to increase labor, excuse me, start contractions and induce labor. And when I say significantly, we're talking about normally within one to four hours after the treatment, labor will start; but also if the baby is mal-position; so the fetus is in upright position or breech position, rather than in head down position, there are certain techniques that they can do that normally within one to six hours will have the baby turn over into the proper position for birth as well. So again, make sure there's a very good reason for it. Contact your acupuncture physician and have them help to induce labor. My name is Mark Brinson, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, Physical Medicine and Human Performance Specialist, wishing you a happy, healthy and balance day."
