"Welcome to St. Lucia. There is lots to explore here between its lovely little towns, beautiful beaches and bays, lush volcanic mountains, tropical rain forests, mineral baths and banana plantations. There has been some debate about who really discovered St. Lucia. Of course credit has been given to Christopher Columbus for finding it in 1502, however, some believe it was actually one of his lieutenants, Juan De Lacasa that discovered the island in 1499. Still others believe that a group of shipwrecked French sailors landed there first in 1502. Over the next 300 years St. Lucia was alternatively occupied by British and French forces, thus St. Lucia's culture has evolved from the intermingling of many different groups of people who participated in its history. St. Lucia also grows an enormous amount of produce that includes bananas, mangos, papayas, passion fruit, guavas and coconuts. Sample some of the local fare and you will find the chefs combine the island's produce with a wide variety of equally fresh seafood to create mouthwatering dishes."
