How to Get the Best Sound Out of a Snare Drum

"So how to get the best sound out of your snare drum. Well we looked at how to tune a drum kit, how to tune different drums, that's the first thing you want to do to get a good sound out of your snare is to tune the drum well. So once you got the drum head on, and you've made sure that all your lugs are about the same tension, so you got similar tone all around the head. Then it's time to look at other things that can effect the sound of your snare drum like the snare strainer, once you have it on, how tight or loose is it. Right now I've got this one really loose, so you can see a poorly, poorly, tuned snare drum would sound like. That to me does not sound too good. That's not going to sound good for a lot of things you want to play so something you can do to fix that is to tighten this knob here on your snare drum strainer. Already a way better sound. Now when you're talking about the best sound to get out of any drum, it's really the best sound for what you want it to sound like. So if you're getting the sound that you want out of your drum, nobody can tell you you've got tuned wrong. Because you're getting the sound that you want."
