"In this clip we are going to talk about how to design a flyer. The things you need to think about when you are designing a flyer. The number one thing you need to think about is communicating your message at a glance. People are only going to have this much time to look and see what it is and you have to be able to convey that information to them that fast and then you want to work backwards and think about what the other details are that you want to give them but your main message or main idea is you need to encapsulate it in something that people can understand in a glance. You need to include on your flyer the what, the where, and the when. Those are the important things that people need to know. If you need to get them somewhere, where are you trying to get them to and when. Save the details for the internet. The main idea here is the principle which is keep it simple. You want to have a web address and all the information, the map, the whatever, the cross streets and this and that, all of that information you can put on the internet but the main idea you should put on the flyer and save all the details for the internet. Remember that bold art can sometimes work in your advantage and can grab peoples' attention in a way that a lot of type can't but if you don't have great bold art you can use the type as your image. But you want to make sure that you don't use too much of it. You just want to make it about the main idea. Also remember that white space is your friend. White space is a great way to lead people in to what is the important thing, to make your flyer to appear clean, to give it space, to allow their eyes to move in the direction that you want them to move into to read the main idea. So don't be afraid not to fill the whole card up with everything because white space really can be your friend. The last thing you need to think about is how are you going to have it printed. Are you going to print it in four colors? Are you going to print it in two colors? Do you need it printed on the back and to look for a printer for what their standard sizes are and work backwards from that and that way you will get a better deal on your flyer and you won't have to redesign it later when you get the quote from the printer and find out it really needs to be 4X6 instead of 5X7. So those are the things to think about when you are designing the flyer."
