"So we are talking about how to train your dog to come back when called. Now the easy way to do this is by having them fetch something to get them used to coming back and then yelling the name when they are in the process of fetching. So they associate coming back with hearing their name. So if I grab this stick and throw it naturally she is going to get it and start coming back, but I'll say her name as she is coming back. Pima, Pima, Pima and drop it and sit. And sit. Good dog. Eventually you should be able to get her to go, go, go and go, go, go. Well in this case she is staying close to me because of the stick but you should be able to get her to go far away and she should always come back, Pima come back. Come back and drop it. And sit. Sit. And really respond to your name. Now even just over a short distances, stay, if I start back up, and get away from the dog I should be able to just by saying Pima, get her to come over. Pima and she is picking up her toy but she is coming right over and sit. Sit. And staying so using the name and associating it with coming back is going to be the best way to train a dog to come back to you."
