"Cooking in the dorm room can really be a challenge. Hi, I'm Alexis Sparkman and today we're going to talk about some of challenges and how to manage cooking in the dorm room. First of all, most dorm rooms don't allow a variety of appliances, especially those with open heating elements, and most of the things that plug in aren't going to be allowed in the dorm room. For most of you, you'll probably find the dorm size refrigerator and a microwave are about all the equipment you have at your disposal. So when you're making selections for cooking in the dorm room, consider purchasing things that don't need to be refrigerated because those dorm room refrigerators are pretty tiny. And second of all, think about things that don't really need to be cooked. Moving beyond that, if you're going to use the microwave, consider things that are easy to cook and don't require a lot of freezer space.
