Series Summary

A trip to the grocery store can be can be a tall order for a bachelor unfamiliar with the intricacies of buying food. Can he buy one banana at a time or does he have to purchase an entire bunch? Should he buy a family-size can of fruits to save money, or will the contents of the can spoil before he has a chance to eat them. The bright lights, impatient shoppers and snide cashiers also add to the horror of a trip to the supermarket. So when the bachelor stomach starts rumbling, what generally takes place instead of a trip to the grocery store is a quick drive to the nearest fast food establishment. Not only is this behavior expensive, it is also detrimental to health. Perhaps if the single man had some guidance on how to shop for food, as well as how to cook that food, they might just cook at home more. In this free series on bachelor living, a nutrition professor discusses how to purchase, store and cook food for quick-and-easy meals. Learn what cooking appliances are essential for singles cooking. The nutritionist also shows viewers how to prepare easy breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Make the most of leftovers with the tips in this free video on bachelor living.

"It can be hard to get motivated to eat healthfully when you're living alone. Hi, I'm Alexa Sparkman and today we're going to talk about grocery shopping when you're living alone. First of all, let's talk about the produce section. Lots of times, people can get overwhelmed in the produce section. You get to the bananas and you find they're all in a huge bunch. Good to know, it's okay to break off one or two. Or how about those grapes that are in the three pound bag? Reach in that bag and grab a sprig of grapes. You can check out with a half a pound, a quarter of a pound, a few ounces of grapes, it's okay. When you're looking at, down the canned aisle, choose canned goods that are single serving. Just about any fruit, vegetable and soup comes in a single serving size. What about the frozen items? Don't forget, most of the things, most of the frozen dinners are single serve. In fact, some single serve entr?es are so small that you may need to add things to them, like a side salad or a nice piece of fruit. What about popcorn? You can get popcorn in a hundred calorie packs now. The important thing to remember, if you've got it on hand, you're more likely to prepare and eat healthfully. If it's not there, it's too easy to drive through that fast food lane. And that's how you shop for food when living alone. I'm Alexa Sparkman, until next time."
