"Let's talk about how to get rid of fleas outside or in your yard. Fleas do not like to be out in the open. If it's very hot or flat out and there's no brush or trees, they really don't like that because the sun gets to them. And so they're going to look for brush, bushes, things like that. The first thing to do is just very easily is going to be lawn maintenance -- keeping the grass short. If the grass is long, the fleas are going to love that. If there's dead brush or things like that around, you've just got to clear that out. And the biggest thing, probably, of all of them is dead leaves. Dead leaf piles are going to be full of fleas, typically, and so clearing out anything that a flea could get into is going to be your first order of business. Secondly, there are commercial products out there from all sorts of sources that you can spray on your lawn or spray into the woods surrounding the lawn to kill fleas. Not all products work alike, and all these products typically are insecticides, so check with your veterinarian first to make sure it's safe. And if it is, then treat your lawn, but be sure that, you know, any type of spray product is going to have to be dry first -- that your pets aren't going to go out there, chew on those leaves or get it all over them, something like that -- because, you know, these products are designed to...as insecticides to kill fleas, and they're fairly potent."
