on 8/23/2009 I'm sorry, but a lot of the stuff this guy is saying is wrong... umm, you most definitely can tell if your hermit crab it a boy or a girl... i know that my hermit crab is a male because he doesn't have the 2 black dots under his abdomen that he would have if he was female. i forget what they r called, but if your hermit crab trusts you and will come out far enough, you can see underneath your crab lined up with his back pair of walking legs there are 2 black dot things on females, and they r not there on males. so yea...

"How do you sex your hermit crab? This kind of falls right in line with the whole, how do you find if your hermit crab is pregnant, kind if thing. There's no way to sex a hermit crab. We don't know if it's male or of it's female. There are theories. Some people theorize that the size of the pincher, or presence of certain hairs in certain areas on the body. Things like that. People theorize that these sorts of things are indicators as to whether it's male or female, however these are unproven, and there's no real method to it at all. The truth of the matter is, is that we just don't know. Hermit crabs are a understudied and, set him down there. Understudied and still rather mysterious little creatures to us. We're just not privied to that information, and well, it's really unnecessary anyways since you can't breed them. So, just enjoy your hermit crab, and don't worry about it."
