"Next, we're going to talk about how to purchase a hermit crab. When you're buying hermit crabs make sure you get a chance to look at the entire colony the person that the store has and really this is the guy we're looking for right here. We're looking for Speedy Gonzales. We want the hermit crab that's not afraid to come out and move around. Who's inquisitive, curious and is going to fight to keep moving and to get away. This guy right here isn't doing anything. He's just going to sit there. He's quiet. He's maybe he might be unhealthy. We don't know. Also, if you look closely at this guy, we can see he has a couple of broken foot tips maybe from fighting maybe from being aggressive to other hermit crabs maybe from transport getting here. Who knows but really we want to find the healthiest hermit crab we can. So , we're looking for a guy who's got healthy intact feet, looking for a guy who's going to be really accessible to come out and run around and be active and is going to give you the most enjoyment as possible. So, if we were going to pick between these two, this is the guy to go with right now. Don't ever pick by the shape or color or design of the shell because a hermit crabs shell is just a home. He's going to change those as he grows and find different shells he likes. So, really this is easily changed in the long run. You want to find a hermit crab that's going to be active and healthy and out going not the one that looks pretty right now."

on 8/23/2009 hermit crabs with colored shells usually aren't good :[ you should see what they do to get those crabs into those shells... they brake open their original shells and force them into the colored shells that usually don't fit right... this causes them a lot of stress and add they to the stress of shipping them and the stress of usually being in horrible conditions at pet stores and boardwalk shops, it's just not good... stress causes loss of limbs, sickness, n ultimately death.
