Summary: Singing a song with feeling is just as important as singing it correctly on pitch, because it draws in the audience. Use the emotion of the song's message as energy to draw in a crowd with some tips from an experienced performer in this free video on stage presence.
"Hey everyone, my name is Alex Buei, we're here on Behalf of Expert Village and we're doing a video on how to not suck onstage. How to develop stage presence, how to be more exciting, how to give the audience what they came for, okay. The audience, all right, they've come to see you, all right. Most of the time they probably don't know who you are, and maybe they've heard about you. But at the end of the day believe it or not, they haven't come to hear your songs. They have come to be moved. They have to come to be happy. They have come to have a feeling and it's the feeling that they take away. And when you give them a certain feeling, all right, they're going to want to bottle it up and they're going to dude, where can I buy your feeling from? It's just, you're great. They want to buy your feeling. And so they go up to your merchandise booth and they're like I'm going to pay fifteen dollars to buy this feeling, so that when I'm depressed... and I'm going through a hard time, I remember I went to Johnny K's concert and he gave me this feeling and I want it again, now! So they put it in. You're not selling a song, and this is one of the biggest mistakes that artists make, everyone just thinks oh I got to do this song and I've got to sing it right, I've got - no! You just have to effectively communicate the song - and you sing it with feeling like you mean it, you give that thing at the beginning where you were telling them about the song, you're telling them that your sister's been single for so long, blah blah. Now you're happy for her, she's happy. You're not, ah! Life is good, 'cause she's going to never leave me. You know what I mean? So that is the most important thing, I guarantee you you will sell more CDs when you set up your songs. Don't just sing them. Set up a moment. If you want them to feel happy then be happy yourself. If you're singing a sad song, then you be sad yourself, you see what I'm saying? Most important thing. Anyway, we'll see you on the other side."
