"Hi, my name is Windy St. George, and this is how to comfort a gassy baby. Gassy babies are uncomfortable, and kind of cry, wail, and are always grouchy. If your baby has colic, it's usually gas, and they can just be that way, for hours, for months on end. Usually, it's the same time of day. I don't know what causes that, I think it might be their immature digestion system. Anyway, to help your baby, first try burping, see if you can get some gas out of the baby. You can also make sure that your baby gets plenty of tummy time. This will help them put pressure on their stomach, and relieve gas. It also helps them with their coordination, and will teach them how to turn over, and eventually crawl. When your baby is very young, you can sort of prop up the baby's chest on to a pillow, so that they can get their face up, even though their arms aren't quite strong enough yet, to hold them up. If your baby is still gassy and crying, you can put them high up on your shoulder, and bounce around, and the jiggling of your shoulder, will sometimes help with the gas problem. You can also pass them back and forth, with other people, because the motion of passing the baby, helps relieve the gas. There is also massages that you can do, to help alleviate gas. You can put the baby down on her bed, and take the legs, and gently raise them up towards the face, and then back down, and then massage the stomach. Raise the legs up,and back down, always being very gentle. Another motion you can try, is alternating the legs, sort of like they're doing a bicycle exercise, and you just do this very softly, and this will help them work the gas through their system."
