"Hi, my name is Rebecca and I'm going to talk about how to stock a sewing area. Obviously, a sewing machine is a useful thing to have in your sewing area but, beyond that what do you need? So, a bunch of bobbins because you want to make sure you have a bunch of colors at your disposal. Some wound, some not wound, they change depending on what you're working on and how much sewing you're doing at any given time. I also have a bag of thread so I have a variety of colors but, of course certain projects you need to run out and get just that special thread. My favorite, absolute favorite could not live without, is a measuring tape. I like it because it has standard on one side and metric on the other. Even if you're not familiar with one or the other sometimes you just can't get your head around the number of five and seven sixteenths and you turn it over and it's exactly the certain number of centimeters and you can know to keep that number in your head. The other thing your obviously going to want some sewing machine needles, this is a nice variety pack, so I have the smaller sizes for my lighter weight fabrics and the heavier sizes if I decide to do some denim or canvas. Right next to my sewing machine, two important tools, one are my thread scissors. These scissors don't leave the sewing machine area because you are always going to need to clip thread, you have to get up find your scissors, to detach your garment from the sewing machine it's not fun. The other is a seam ripper, no matter what I'm doing or where I am in my sewing area, I always keep it right at the base of my sewing machine so I never gets lost in a pile of fabric or patterns. Also I have my box of needles. Another thing safety pins, these are used for turning tubes of fabric, so you sew a tube of fabric and you stick the safety pin in the end, and make the snake through so that you can have it right side out, press it and you have a nice strap for a bag or for a garment. I also have variety of sewing scissors. I have cloth scissors. I have my paper and other items scissors, which don't want to get them confused because you want to keep your cloth scissors nice and sharp. And at the moment I have another pair of scissors because it's always good. And these are the basics of the items you need to have in your sewing area."
