on 7/13/2009 As a lactation consultant I am horrified at the poor advice you have given. I suggest that you do some research from an evidence based source and not some pamphlet you may have received with formula. Eliminating your listed items will do nothing to your milk production. Breastmilk comes in anywhere from 2 to 5 days until then you produce colostrum in quantities more than enough for your baby. YOU do NOT have to drink cows milk to make milk.... horrible advice

"Hello. My name is Andrea Orta Mashburn and today I'm going to discuss how to increase your breast milk supply. When increasing your breast milk supply, it's important to note that it's going to be a slow transition period for your own body to begin producing the milk. It's not untypical that when you first conceive your child, that your milk is not coming at the right time. Many doctors will inform you that if this is your first child, it may be a couple of days before your milk supply will actually come in slowly. Don't be surprised if it takes anywhere between three to five days. Just be patient and keep trying. Remember that your body is going to start producing amounts of milk that are going to be able to feed your child. So it's typical that it's going to be a slow process and then gain as the months continue. Don't be surprised if you think that you're nurturing your child enough through your breast milk. If you're unsure if your child is getting enough nutrients, then you need to be looking at their actual stool samples. If an infant is having about three stool samples a day, then they're probably getting enough nutrients through your breast milk. However, if your noticing that they're not having these typical stool movements, then there's some typical steps that you can take to increase your own breast milk supply. One of the first things that you can do as a mother breast feeding, is that you can put in additional liquids into your diet. Make sure you're staying hydrated. Drink plenty of water, juice, as well as milk. You can start off by eliminating some things from your diet. Eliminate cabbage, kidney beans, shell fish, smoked fish, soft drinks, coffee, as well as other caffeine products. There are also some things that you can do to include in your diet to help increase the breast milk supply. Introduce green vegetables. Any green vegetables will do, especially green beans. You can also do dairy products that include milk, chicken, fish and vitamin supplements."
