"Hi this is Irma Benavidez with Simply Beautiful in Austin, Texas, I'm here today to show you how to select face makeup for African American skin tones. We have Ali here who is a medium dark skin tone. Now most African American women do have to use two types of foundation, one that's about their skin tone and one that's a little bit darker to blend, so, proper application and to find a color would not be to put it on your hand but to definitely try it on your skin, so start by getting a foundation, that's definitely a warmer tone. Apply around the jaw line, the nose, bring out into the cheeks and into the forehead, blend and take a look at the color. Don't be afraid to go out in the sunlight to see if the color is either too light or too dark. Just blend the foundation evenly into the skin and into the hairline, if need be you can get a darker foundation to blend from neck into the cheeks and work the two together. The majority of the foundation should definitely go in the center panel of the face, this blends evenly and makes you look like you're not wearing any type of foundation so when you do go out there isn't a line, any look of ashyness, or uneven skin tone, open your eyes. The skin should look nice warm and healthy."
