Series Summary

Boxing is a combat sport in which two participants of similar weight fight each other using only their fists. Boxing today is regulated and typically executed in a series of one- to three-minute intervals, called rounds. A winner is determined if the opponent is knocked down and unable to get up before the referee counts to 10 or if the opponent is deemed too injured to continue. If there is no stoppage of the fight before an agreed number of rounds, a winner is determined either by the referee's decision or by the scorecards of judges. In this free series of videos, a boxing coach and trainer demonstrates how to box, from putting on the gloves to throwing hooks and uppercuts. Discover how to get into a basic boxing stance, how to improve footwork and how to throw punches. With these beginner boxing tips and techniques, potential boxers will be well on their way to floating like butterflies and stinging like bees.

"Hi, my name is Bruce Acuna, and I own Bruce's K.O. Boxing in Austin, Texas. Today I'm here to show you how to wrap your hand and make a fist. What we're going to do we're going to get a basic hand wrap for training, get the loop part run it through my thumb, come up underneath my wrist, depends how big your hands are you'll wrap it a few times here. From there I'll come underneath, then I'll start coming over my wrist criss-crossing them to support my wrist here. Do that a few times. A few times. Then we'll come around the thumb, so what I want to do here, I want to come over my wrist, underneath the joint here, come back under, and then over, now I'm underneath and I'll come up and over the joint again. Keep it snug. And when I need to release it I'll just hold it with my fingertips this way it doesn't loosen up on me. And I'll just come here, back under, now I'll start coming through my fingers, here, here, then I'll just secure everything in. Usually I'm working my way from my big finger all the way down to my little finger. Come back over my knuckles here a few times, here. Then I'll just tie everything in. Good thing about these wraps have Velcro on them. Just come back around my wrist, and there we go, wrapped hands. This how I'll just close my fist all the way and there it is you got a fist and a wrapped hand. Good luck, and remember train like a champion."
