"So, you are planning an event and you are looking for a wedding coordinator. My name is Lori Randall, with Simply Divine events, and I'm going to talk about how to hire an event coordinator. First thing you want to do is talk to friends, family, co-workers and get recommendations on who you should even contact. And recommendations and referrals are probably the most important things that you want to do. So, talk to people, other people have had events, say you're having a bar mitzvah or you're planning a wedding, a sweet sixteen party, any party that you're planning, talk to the people who have planned similar parties see what event coordinator they have used. First start that route, if you have a hard time finding somebody who has used an event coordinator that they liked, the next step that you want to do is talk to, if you having a venue at a hotel, talk to your catering manager at your hotel and see what Vender's that they recommend. You can also, look at your local MPI which is Meeting Planners International, they have event coordinators on there, as well. You can also, look at International Special Events Society and NACE Which is National Association of Catering Executives you can also find event coordinators there, as well. Once you find your event coordinator you're going to want to take a look at their web site, contact them and set up a meeting. When you're looking to hire an event coordinator, you want to make sure that you're meeting with somebody that meets your needs, who understands you, who's a good listener. You also, want to make sure that they have experience. Talk to them about how long they've been in business, how long they've been planning events, talk a little bit about their background. You want to hire an event coordinator who has the background, who has the experience in events, in all aspect events, not just being the creative side of it. You want make sure their creative, organized, you want to make sure that they have some sort of background in working at a venue, at a hotel, a restaurant, so they know all the ins and outs such as your logistics, not just your planning part of it.
