"So you just found the next job that you want to take, and you're wondering how to talk to your, your current boss about that. My name is Wade Childress with the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast and I'm here to tell you how to resign from a job. First of all, your boss is a person just like you, so it's just a conversation. If you've found the next thing, you're excited about it, maybe your boss is going to be excited for you, hopefully you've got a good enough relationship that that's the case. Think about it, think what you want to do, but make certain that you're ready to make that step and then go talk to your boss, have a conversation, sit down, let them know, let them know you're excited. You've got something new going on, tell them what it is, where you're going to be going, let them know that you're going to give them appropriate notice. You want to give them a formal letter of resignation, many times they're going to ask you for that, in those letters you're going to want to make sure you cover a couple things. Throughout the process you want to be respectful, you want to keep a letter short, there's no need to go into any excessive detail. You want to give appropriate notice, usually that'll be two weeks, sometimes it's thirty days, but you might have a contract with somebody and that might give you six months or a year notice. If you do have a contract, make sure you read it through and make sure you adhere to the contract. Don't want to burn bridges, talk to your boss, let them know what's going on, where you're going to go, get them excited about the future where you're going to go. Tell them you'll help train the next person during your notice period. Say thanks for the opportunity, again, you're probably going to be working with these people again sometime and you don't want to burn any bridges. Again my name is Wade Childress, I'm with the Hospice of the Florida Suncoast and I've told you how to resign from a job."
