"What phylum do snakes belong to? Well that's a good question and to start us off with it's probably best if we figure out what a phylum is. It's a classification system that scientists use to divide up the animal kingdom. So every animal would be part of a phylum, an order, and a suborder. So like a reptile would be, fall under the phylum of reptilia okay. And then snakes an lizards fall under the order of squamata and then snakes fall under the suborder of serpentes. Now lizards being different would fall under the order of serians. Okay, now under the smaller order of serpentes it would then break up into species and sub-species names getting ever more complicated and then possibly also taking into account locales and other things like that. It's a very important way for scientists to classify and distinct various types of animals from each other."
