"The Capitol District of downtown Raleigh is the largest of the five districts. It includes the State Capitol building, the Executive Mansion, the Museums of Natural Sciences and History, many churches, the legislature building, and many other state government offices, such as the office of the Department of Revenue and the Department of Education. The Capitol District is not as dense as the rest of downtown, and features many old houses from prominent figures in North Carolina history, some of the houses predating the Civil War. Some of these historic houses can be toured, such as the Executive Mansion."
