"My name is Christine Marquette and I am a registered dietitian with Austin Regional Clinic and I am going to talk to you about symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The most common symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IVF are diarrhea, nausea, constipation, and bloating. However, this is a syndrome that has been associated with other conditions. Often times people with IVS will also experience depression or anxiety. Some people with IVS may not actually experience diarrhea, they may also experience constipation so that is another possible symptom. Other people will have what is called cyclic IVS meaning that they alternate between days of having diarrhea and days of having constipation. So mainly with having IVS the typical symptoms start in the digestive area again caused possibly by foods but they could also be caused by stress. They could also be caused by something in the immune system so the way the symptoms actually present themselves will be slightly different in each individual. Often it is comorbid with other things such as headaches, migraines, some people will experience fibromyalgia as well. Being a syndrome again that means it has a lot of particular symptoms that can be comorbid for this particular condition but the most common ones do involve the digestive tract either intestinal cramping, bloating, diarrhea or constipation."
