"My name is Christine Marquette, and I'm a registered dietitian with the Austin Regional Clinic, and I'm going to talk to you about what vitamins help hair growth. Some of the major vitamins that help with hair growth are vitamin A and biotin. But the thing to keep in mind is, besides the vitamins, there are also several minerals that play a role, as well as essential fatty acids and protein. The minerals that have a major role with healthy hair are actually copper and zinc. And as far as protein, any lean source of protein, or a plant source of protein would be good for your hair growth as well. And as far as the essential fats, that's specifically the Omega 3 fats that are primarily in nuts, seeds, flaxseed and fish or other types of seafood. For your vitamins, your vitamin A and biotin, eggs actually can be a good source of that as well as several different fruits and vegetables. With copper and zinc, copper is found primarily in nuts and seeds, and zinc is found in a lot of different high protein foods, such as your seafood. So, with all three of these, your protein, your essential fats, your vitamin A, biotin, copper and zinc, a lot of the same foods are very high in these sources. So, if you make sure to include nuts and seeds on a regular basis, as well as some type of seafood, and a variety of fruits and vegetables, you will actually be able to eat everything that you need in the way of vitamins, minerals, protein to actually have healthy hair. If you are not able to have these things on a regular basis, a basic, standard multi-vitamin that has all of these things in it will actually help you to meet your needs to actually have healthy hair."
