The first airbrush machine was a hand-operated compressor developed in 1879 by Abner Peeler in Iowa to be used for artistic purposes. The modern airbrush works by passing compressed air through a filter pump, which then creates a reduction in air pressure, or suction, which allows paint to be pulled from a connected reservoir. Airbrushing has been used by many artists for photo retouching, murals, makeup application and for detailing cars and motorcycles. In this free video series on airbrushing, a professional illustrator demonstrates how to use different airbrush techniques. Learn how an airbrush gun works, and even find out how to assemble its different components. Get ideas for using templates, masking fluid and free-handing, and learn how to airbrush a face, step-by-step. Take up a new hobby, or freshen up on an old trade with these free video art lessons.
"Well welcome, today we're going to talk about airbrush 101 and we are going to talk about the basics of an airbrush gun. This has always been fun, you'd be able to see this in the market and you'd see a whole bunch of different people doing different things. I'm playing around here to show you all the different tricks. So basically what you do is you push down on the trigger and if you push down nothing comes out but once you push down and pull back that's when paint comes out and then you pull it back and it gets smaller and less paint comes out. So basically it is taking the air through here and pulling it out and this is an eclipse and you can do all different kinds of things. So you can start really small and the pressure on the compressor is usually between 45 and if you are doing bigger pieces where you are airbrushing something really bigger you go really higher with pressure so I was just playing around here to show you guys how you can airbrush. So the thing you need to know about airbrushing is that basically it is pulling the paint through a tube here. They also have a top feed or have a bottom feed and so my name is Lars-Erik Robinson. Thank you for joining me and enjoy, keep airbrushing."
