"This is Dr. David Cathcart and I'm from Heartland Regional Medical Center and we're going to talk about how to help someone who may have cancer. Cancer can be such a devastating disease even the sound of the word is scary to somebody. So the best thing you can do is support that person. The last thing you want to do is to try and tell that person I know so and so who had such and such treatment and they had this problem or they had that problem. That's what the doctor's for. So the best thing you can do is be supportive of that person. Build a strong social network of people that help support. Help them get to the hospital or help them get to the doctor for the treatments. Help them to understand that it's okay when they hurt and it's okay when they're sick and that you're there to support them. Leave the diagnosis and leave the horror stories for the doctor. This is Dr. David Cathcart. Thanks for letting me talk to you today about how to help someone with cancer."
