"Hi I'm Laura from youngwritersworkshops.com and I'm going to talk about how to write a grant proposal. I think the most important thing to remember when writing a grant proposal is that you'll be more successful if you'll follow the guidelines to the letter so to that end I think the first step in writing a grant proposal is to read every word of the request for proposals. It will give you what you need to know about the project as well as their specific guidelines. The second point is to focus on these specific topics, the need, the description of your proposed project and the budget. Those are the three standard sections you'll find in most grant proposals and that is the way you are really going to make your case. Within the need section we should use a lot o statistics and details that really illustrate the strong needs that exists for your proposed project and again in the description of your proposed project use a lot of detail. Give really specific examples of how you have helped people already in the past and what you propose to do and how it will help address the problem. The third point is to really include a more detailed budget. The more detailed you can be in your budget the more confidence your potential funder is going to have that you know exactly what it is that you are setting out to do and you have the practical experience to do it. Lastly proofread very carefully. You are asking someone for money. You really want to show them that you are professional and polished so a grant proposal is very important to proofread and to polish your work. So those are the four steps that I think are most important for writing a grant proposal."
