"To be traditional or untraditional. To use text books or to go at it on your own. All these questions have to be answered when you're looking for a home school curriculum. Hi, I'm Melissa Tolliver and today we're going to explore the different ideas behind curriculum. Now-a-days it many, there are many package curriculum that you can purchase. You can go to any teachers supply store, go on line, to any home schooling fair and find curriculum. But what you need to do is decide what works for your family. You don't need to use a package curriculum. It doesn't need to be expensive. You don't have to have someone else grade your children's work. You can go to your local library and find reading programs. Our library has Hooked on Phonics. You can go to your local half priced book store and find textbooks and work books and all kinds of things to integrate into your curriculum. What you do need to do is to have a plan. Write out your plan. Decide with your family what you're going to study. Decide if you want to do unit studies. If you want to do open study, if you want to use actual text books, and teach from that. Any of these curriculums are available at reasonable prices in any place you look. But remember, use your imagination. Home schooling does not mean, necessarily, school at home. Use your back yard, use your local nature center, go to the swimming pool, take samples. There are many different things that you can do. So, when you're looking for a curriculum, remember your budget, remember your children's educational goals and your educational goals. And how you teach best and how they learn best. Thank you. I'm Melissa Tolliver, we'll see you next time."
