"Hello I'm Greg owner of fitness for life and today we are going to discuss proper breathing technique during weight training. Sarah is actually going to demonstrate the movement. We are going to do a dumbbell fly, we are going to have a soft elbow . What Sarah is going to do, she's going to inhale as she takes the weights away from her body. So go ahead and open the movement. We are going to inhale now, and we are going to exhale as she brings the weight in. And we'll continue with that, inhale nice and smooth, exhale on the way up. We'll keep that a little slow on the way down. Your breathing should be as smooth and as controlled as the movement itself. Nice and smooth, stop there, pause and exhale. Different movements require different breathing patterns. This isn't a particularly big movement. We are not expending a whole lot of energy, so the breathing should be pretty smooth and systematic. The bigger the movement the more energy expend, the more labored the breathing is going to be, the more important it is to get the breathing down and keep it stabilized. We've got two more reps, arms a little straighter, nice soft exhale. Again you want to inhale on the way down, exhale on the way up. Hands a little higher towards the ceiling, alright. Keep it controlled we want to inhale down and exhale up. We can relax a minute. The main reason for the proper breathing technique is to get oxygen in when you are weight training you are expending energy. We want to replenish what we have expended so breathing is very important. It also takes a lot of pressure off of the body. You'll notice that some people try to hold their breath when they breath, that their head gets really full and flush with blood. That's a good way to pass out. So the breathing should be slow and methodical. If it's a faster paced movement, then the breathing can pick up a bit. This is Greg again this concludes our proper breathing techniques for weight training."
