"Okay, so let's talk about how to feed an older dog a balanced diet. Number one, older dogs are going to be a lot less active, so they're going to need a lot less food. This is a lot of food for an older dog. You're going to want to use portion control if it's the type of dog that has an appetite where they'll keep eating, cause' they will gain weight given that they're less active. You also want to feed a food that's twenty to thirty percent good protein. You don't want to have a ton of grain in the food, and that's just a general rule for all all dogs, but especially for older dogs who may be eating less food, so it's even more important to get a lot of protein. And you want to pick a food that tastes good, and for the most part the dog should be interested in the food as if it were a treat if you give it to them one piece at a time, sit. And as you can see she likes it. If your dog doesn't even like the food it's going to be very difficult to get the older dog to take in the calories that they need if you're giving em' the right portion, so it's a balance. You don't want to have food out all the time for the dog, and you want to keep the quality of the food under control, and at the same time you don't want to let the dog gorge itself. If you also need to include some supplements in here that your vet can recommend you can do that with most wet and dry foods; definitely something to keep in mind"
