"People often ask if dyslexia is an hereditary trait. To the best of our knowledge, at this time, we know that there are two different ways in which people may become dyslexic. One is definitely by means of heredity. The gene that is responsible for dyslexia is passed from parent to child. However, many people, as a result of accident or injury, may also acquire the characteristics that we classify as dyslexic. And that is called an acquired dyslexia. So really there are two types of dyslexia. Acquired by accident or injury, and developmental. That means that you inherited the characteristics, or the potential to display the characteristics through the genes from one of your parents."
