Video Transcript

"Hello, I'm Doctor Bernice Bernhard, a New York State licensed psychologist practicing here in New York City. In this segment we're going to talk about how to deal with stress. I would like you first to take a glass of water and drink it, and then I want you to find a picture on a wall across from you, or if there is none, imagine a picture twelve by twelve, across from you. And what you're going to do is go to the top left corner of the picture, breathe in through your nose, and hold it to a count of four, breathe in through your diaphragm, and not through your chest. Hold it to a count of four, if you can't do it, do it to a count of three or even to two. You'll get to four or even beyond. So you're going to breathe in through your nose, hold, and then you're going to go to the top right and breathe out through your mouth. Then you're going to go down to the bottom right and breathe in through your nose, you're going to hold four beats, go to the left and breathe out again. If you do this several times, you'll really find that it's relaxing. Five to ten times, it makes a difference because of the breathing and holding your breath. This is Doctor Bernhard, thank you very much."
