Video Transcript

"Hello, I'm Dr. Bernice Bernhard, a New York State licensed psychologist, practicing here, in New York City. In this segment, we're going to talk about how to be happy. It might surprise you to know, that just as our bodies exercise and we build muscle, we can also change the way our brain works, if we exercise it in a different way, and what I mean by that, is we have to learn to think in a different way. We have to learn that every time we have a negative thought, we need to learn next to it, maybe to write it down, and next to it, to put the positive thought. My boss criticized me today. Next to it you could say, Yes, I was criticized, but maybe I deserved it, and next time, I'll do better, and maybe I'll learn from it. The more you can exercise your brain, not to be so upset, the happier you'll be, and the one tip about happiness, is that the happiest people, are the ones that actually give to others in some way, like volunteer work in some special kind of way, in an area that interests you, so remember, that you can train your brain to think differently, and therefore, you'll feel differently. That's the way it works. You think in a certain way, and then you'll feel in a certain way, rather than the other way around. This is Dr. Bernhard. Thank you very much."
