Video Transcript

"Hello, I'm Doctor Bernice Bernhard, a New York State licensed psychologist practicing here in New York City. In this clip we're going to talk about how to avoid emotional eating. Procrastination is probably the greatest for dieting and for exercising. What I'd like you to do so that we can begin, is think about, Am I really serious about this now? And I want you to keep a log for two weeks. Yeah, that's boring I know, but I want you to keep a log for two weeks and that means everything that you eat, everything that you drink, even chewing gum. Then when you look back I want you to write underneath each thing you wrote that you eat, that you ate, I want you to say how you felt about it at the time. Were you hungry when you ate, we you bored when you ate, were you sad when you ate, were you tired when you ate, were you upset when you ate. And then see if you can find out, especially the upset, is there anything I can do about it. And then if you're really serious about this, I'm going to ask you to make one change in your life. Get rid of every bit of junk food in your life and then put in its stead things that are visually available to you. Cut up carrots, cut up apples and good fruit for you and leave it not in the refrigerator but where you can grab it and munch. At the same time learning why I eat and what can I substitute. Call a friend, take a bubble bath, do something that's good for yourself and do that one change and you'll see that it will make a difference. This is Doctor Bernice Bernhard, thank you."
