"Adobe Photoshop is a registered trademark of Adobe Systems Incorporated. I am in no way affiliated with Adobe. Hi, I'm Steve Anthony. I'm a photographer and digital retouching artist here in New York City. In this clip we're going to talk about how to create an adjustment layer in Photoshop. Adjustment layers are extremely useful in Photoshop. First of all you want to open a layers window. Now in this particular case I'm going to take this picture and to add some adjustment layers to it by simply going to the, the layers window. And down at the bottom you'll see a, you'll see what looks like a black and white cookie. I don't know how else to describe it. You click on that and you, you can, create an adjustment layer with any one of these attributes. Curves for example. This is what I use to increase or decrease contrast. Now you can see, what's happened is I've changed the, the look of the picture. But, I haven't actually changed anything. All I've done is add a layer that adjusts the image. Now I can make that layer invisible or visible as I choose. And you can do this with not only curves but also color balance. I could make myself a different color. And again, you can make that layer visible or invisible. You can do, make black and white with varying degrees of intensities and various colors. As you can see, I've done some really strange things to the picture but if I don't like it, I can simply make the layer invisible. Or change the opacity of the layer. Perhaps I sort of like the effect but it's a little too intense. So maybe I can just make the layer less opaque. This is just but a basic introduction. You can do anything you want with a layer that you've created as an adjustment layer. And nothing is permanent. Until you save the picture as a flattened file. I'm Steve Anthony. And this has been creating adjustment layers in Photoshop."
